Seating Challenges Seating for Ambulatory Residents Who Are Progressing to Non-Ambulatory Determining proper seating for ambulatory residents who may be quickly progressing to a non-ambulatory state can present a challenge. While often the goal is to help maintain resident mobility for as long as possible, caregivers often find that within a short period of time, the resident may need a different chair that will accommodate the different needs of a non ambulatory resident who is further progressing. This can be quite costly. The Broda Midline Full Recliner, may help address this challenge. Its versatility can accommodate a wide variety of needs as well as budgets. It accommodates non ambulatory residents as it has 90° of recline, 38° of tilt and an elevating legrest with adjustable footrest. However, it can also accommodate ambulatory residents, as the legrest portion is removable, allowing for the resident to propel with their feet. The seat to floor height is adjustable (43 cm to 55 cm) with a front pivot tilt, to allow a proper foot on floor position for safe propelling. (The height of the resident will need to be considered to determine if this option is suitable.) Once the resident is no longer ambulatory, the legrest can be reinstalled and the seat height adjusted to the desired height if necessary. The suitability of any chair is of course determined on an individual basis. Contact your local Broda distributor/ representative or our visit www.brodaseating.com to arrange for a FREE IN-SERVICE. |
